New Holland boasts a rich baling heritage that dates back to the inception of baling technology itself. Over more than seven decades, the company has introduced numerous innovations that have significantly enhanced baling efficiency, productivity, and operator comfort. This long history of continuous evolution has solidified New Holland's position as a global leader in baling technology.
The flagship BigBaler models are crafted in Zedelgem, Belgium, at New Holland’s global Centre of Harvesting Excellence. This location is historically significant, as it was here over 100 years ago that Leon Claeys developed his first threshing machine, transforming harvesting methods. New Holland’s baling legacy also extends to the United States, where the company introduced the first self-tying pick-up baler in 1940. Today, 35 years after the launch of the initial large square baler, the BigBaler remains the world’s leading large square baler. New Holland’s commitment to innovation continues, with engineers dedicated to advancing the next generation of baling technology. The sophisticated product development process and the expertise of a dedicated workforce at this World Class Manufacturing facility ensure that the BigBaler range, along with flagship harvesting products like the CR, CX, and FR series, consistently set the standard in harvesting technology.
The pick-up is a crucial component of your BigBaler, and New Holland has entirely revamped the MaxiSweep™ pick-up for unparalleled collecting performance. Now equipped with five tine bars and available in a wide pick-up, CropCutter™ specification, this design enhances both performance and durability. The new configuration includes a 25% increase in double tines compared to previous models. You can choose between two widths: the ultra-wide 2.35-meter option, ideal for handling the largest straw swaths from high-capacity combines, and the standard 1.96-meter width, which is perfect for silage operations. For added robustness, CropCutter™ models feature heavy-duty 5.5mm coil tines, designed to withstand the toughest, stoniest ground.
Since no two baling operations are the same, the BigBaler offers a wide range of crop processing options tailored to your specific needs. Whether you need the Packer direct flow option, the Packer Cutter, or the CropCutter™ variants, the BigBaler has a solution that suits any crop, growing condition, usage profile, or conservation method. For operations in highly abrasive conditions, the new heavy-duty rotor is particularly effective. Designed for baling tough crops, this rotor features an abrasive finish that can extend its lifespan by up to four times.
Density is crucial for producing high-quality big bales, whether they are straw bales optimized for combustion in biomass operations, tightly packed silage bales with improved fermentation characteristics, or simply bales that are more compact for easier storage and transport. At the heart of big baling excellence is the next-generation SmartFill™ II bale direction sensing system, which now offers even greater accuracy to ensure that the crop is fed evenly. Additionally, the strong, reinforced monocoque frame, crafted from robust reinforced steel, guarantees durability and reliable performance season after season.
For over 35 years, New Holland has been a pioneer in double knot technology, relentlessly enhancing its industry-leading systems. The BigBaler's double knot system ensures higher bale density with reduced knotting strain. Now, the latest BigBaler range introduces Loop Master™ knotting technology, a groundbreaking innovation. This new system features a loop-style second knot, which is 37% stronger and provides a 26% improvement in tensile strength, significantly reducing breakage. More importantly, it eliminates twine offcuts that can end up in fields or fodder, saving over six kilometers or 46 kilograms of twine in a 10,000 bale season.
The knotting technology is tailored to the BigBaler’s specifications, with four knots per bale on the BigBaler 870 Plus and 890 Plus models, and six knots per bale on the BigBaler 1270 Plus and 1290 Plus variants. With over 15,000 bales tied without a miss-tie, the BigBaler sets a high standard for reliability and accuracy. Improved debris management and gentle set-down logic further enhance the advanced baling technology, reaffirming that the BigBaler remains a leader in the field even after a quarter of a century.
Managing your BigBaler is now more straightforward than ever, thanks to the cutting-edge user interface that simplifies operation. All critical parameters can be controlled on the move via the standard IntelliView™ IV color touchscreen monitor. Additionally, the BigBaler boasts full ISOBUS compatibility with AEF ISOBUS certification, ensuring seamless integration with the SideWinder™ II armrest. This guarantees a smooth, single-monitor operation for enhanced ease of use.
The IntelliCruise™ system enhances productivity and operator comfort while optimizing fuel efficiency and feeding rates across varying field and crop conditions. Utilizing ISOBUS Class III technology, IntelliCruise™ offers two operational modes:
The award-winning IntelliSense™ bale Automation system marks a significant advancement in baling technology. As automation becomes increasingly crucial in modern farming, New Holland’s IntelliSense™ system introduces an industry-first proactive steering and speed control automation system for the BigBaler range. This innovative system transforms the baling process by reducing the need for continuous manual adjustments.
Traditionally, operating a large square baler requires intense focus from the operator, including frequent steering adjustments, monitoring swath density, and adjusting tractor speed to prevent overloads. The driver must also keep an eye on bale fill indicators, steer accordingly, and manage slice numbers and weights to ensure consistent bale production. IntelliSense™ automation eases these demands by managing steering and speed adjustments, thereby allowing operators to focus on other aspects of their work and increasing overall efficiency.
The BigBaler range is designed with advanced precision farming features to enhance operational efficiency. Bale weight and moisture levels are continuously updated and displayed on the IntelliView™ IV monitor. This real-time data can be stored, downloaded, and analyzed using New Holland FieldOps™ Telematics precision farming software. By generating accurate yield maps, operators can fine-tune inputs to optimize yields and reduce input costs, ensuring more precise and cost-effective farming practices.
